After Union Serves Strike Notice to Overwaitea, Mediator Adjourns Talks Until June 13

Following the issue of 72-hour strike notice to Overwaitea, the Union Negotiating Committee and Overwaitea have each been meeting with mediator Mr. Brian Foley, who has agreed to assist with negotiations.

Mediator Mr. Brian Foley has ordered that negotiations with Overwaitea be adjourned until Friday, June 13.

Mr. Foley took the action after concluding that the positions of the Union Negotiating Committee and Overwaitea senior management were too far apart, and asked that both the company and Union Negotiating Committee re-visit their positions and be prepared to return to the bargaining table this Friday and through the weekend.

In addition, Mr. Foley asked for and was granted agreement that the Union Negotiating Committee would not act on the 72-hour strike notice served against Overwaitea, nor follow through on issuing 72-hour perishable notice until after the talks this weekend had reached a conclusion.

The 72-hour perishable notice is traditionally given in the food industry so employers may clear their stores of perishable food items and not see them go to waste.

Further updates will be posted on the union website.
